This lovely oval shaped vintage brooch or pin was purchased in Europe in 1972, but it was most likely made in the 1960s. The needlepoint sampler depicts an intricate cluster or bouquet of roses, the detail on the embroidery stitching is amazing. It has an ivory background (it looks whiter in the sun, it is more of a cream color background) with pink and red roses with shades of green leaves. The needlework center is set in an artistically designed silver tone metal frame, which sets off the beauty of the miniature floral petit point to perfection. It reminds me of a cameo, but done in needlepoint. The brooch is unsigned.
This is in excellent vintage condition. There is a slight bit of yellowing of the background in one extremely small spot (see arrow in picture), you don't really see it without magnification but I wanted to point it out. The brooch measures approximately 1 3/4 x 1 1/2 inches. You can see the condition and the details in the enlarged pictures.
This eye catching brooch would make a great addition to your collection of vintage jewelry and a great gift for anyone who loves doing needlepoint or gardening. It would look gorgeous on a black choker around your neck or on a scarf. For all you men out there, give this with a dozen roses to your girlfriend or wife and she will love it. It will remind her of the roses every time she wears it.
