Cake Decoration cake topper tip: As a long time baker, my friend suggests putting a stick into the cake and then placing the figurine over the stick to keep it from toppling over or falling off the cake.  She uses thin dowel rods, cut to fit. Although popsicle sticks will work too.  She also uses dowel rods to hold cakes layered together, using a cut-to-fit thin cardboard, between the layers, escpecially if there is pudding filling. She also says that partially freezing the cake before slicing into layers, helps make a neat cut, and is much easier to put layers together with filling. And another tip for keeping filling from oozing out... use a decorator bag and make a line of frosting around the edge of the bottom layer, Like a little wall. Then fill with your filling, it will hold your filling in place wheen you place the next layer on top.
