Vintage Fisher Price Precious Places #5162 Country Kitchen Cottage COMP/EXC++-NR MINT!

In 1989, Fisher Price created a village of collectible houses, accessories, and people that could be manipulated via magnetic keys. They called this village Precious Places. The village was interconnected by special elevated sidewalks that animals, people, and accessories could traverse using the magnetic key. In addition, many of the buildings possessed special features that could be controlled utilizing these magnetic keys (e.g. turn on the lights, manipulate ceiling fans, rock cradles, open doors etc.). Each building and accessory set afforded its own unique key.

Here for your examination is one, complete building to this "magic world," the VHTF Precious Places #5162 Country Kitchen Cottage. This set was only manufactured between 1989-1990. A wonderful set, this offering includes a square white plastic two story building with light pink paper "litho" siding on the outside walls. The outside wall lithos are decorated with flowers, assorted plants, and butterflies while the interior first floor lithos feature kitchen cabinets, chairs, a kitchen table, dishes, plants etc.. The second floor interior lithos reflect a bedroom---curtained windows, stuffed chair, a dresser, side table etc. The second floor of the Cottage has a bay window, 3 balconies, and another window. There is a square hole in the middle of the second floor to allow the light from the overhead light fixture to drift downward to the first floor. Powered by 2 AA batteries (batteries not included), the overhead light in the bedroom works flawlessly. A railing encircles the hole in the floor so that Grandma can't fall down the hole. The second floor is slightly elevated over the first floor so that the child may insert the magic magnetic key in between the floors to maneuver any characters or accessories on the second floor. Other than a few loose lithos, which I will be regluing to the base, this Country Cottage is in EXC++-NEAR MINT condition.

The exterior of the building has a pink keyhole that can be unlocked using the pink magnetic key. On either side of the building, there are two extensions supported by white columns. One is a garden and patio area and the other is a "brick" driveway covered by a pink awning. Other accessories accompanying this set include:

1 VHTF pink awning for the driveway (MINT);

1 RARE cream colored battery cover (MINT);

1 RARE pink half-circle cone-shaped scalloped roof that fits over the second story bay window (MINT);

2 HTF white picket fences (MINT);

2 HTF white high back chairs (MINT);

1 VHTF blue umbrella table with a pink umbrella (MINT);

1 RARE small blue bedroom dresser with an oval-shaped "mirror" on top and two lower white drawers that open as one unit (NEAR MINT-MINT);

1 RARE, long narrow blue lounge chair with a quilt-simulated pattern on top (MINT);

3 HTF balcony railings (MINT);

1 RARE square railing that prevents the character from falling down the center hole on the second floor to the kitchen (MINT);

1 VHTF blue settee seat with a white quilt-simulated seat(MINT);

1 RARE white refrigerator with a pink door and an interior litho that depicts shelves loaded with food; the rear of the refrigerator shows molded coiled "tubes" near the top and a molded motor and mouse at the bottom; the door opens with the magic magnetic key and the inside of the door exhibits molded shelves (MINT);

1 RARE small pink oven/stove with a white paper range litho on top; the stove has a small ledge above the stove and a rectangular shaped oven door that really opens and closes (NEAR MINT);

1 VHTF small, white mailbox that clamps onto the side of the house (MINT);

1 VHTF white plastic patio piece that attaches to the side of the cottage; the patio has a garden litho (EXC---wrinkle and a loose corner on the litho; I will be regluing the corner that is loose with Rubber Cement so it won't pose any future problems; the wrinkle is here to stay; the extension piece is elevated so the child may manipulate any characters or accessories using the magic key;

1 VHTF white plastic driveway pieces that attaches to the side of the cottage; the piece has a paper litho with pink bricks on it (MINT); once again, the driveway is elevated so that the child can easily manipulate any characters or accessories using the magic key;

2 HTF pieces of sidewalk with their respective supports (MINT);

4 VHTF, tiny round dark pink coffee cups with tiny square handles on the side (MINTY MINT);

4 VHTF, small, flat round dark pink coffee cup saucers (MINTY MINT);

4 VHTF, round dark pink plates with a slightly raised heart imprint in the center (MINTY MINT);

4 VHTF, round, dark pink bowls (MINTY MINT);

1 RARE small, round, dark pink pie that is rounded on top and hollow on the other (MINT);

1 HTF pink magnetic key without a litho (MINT); and

1 RARE Precious Places Mom (NEAR MINT---NOTE: The figure shown in my pictures is NOT the Mom you will be receiving. I made a mistake and had another Mom in my pictures. The Mom you will be receiving is the one that belongs with this set. The correct Mom has brownish-red hair coiled in a bun; she is wearing a yellow dress with a pink apron and pink trim. She has a small, round magnet on the bottom of the piece).

Besides moving Mom around the house and turning on the light, the key opens the front door, unlocks the back wall of the building, and positions Mom to "sit" on one of the chairs or the settee. The key also opens the refrigerator and navigates the Mom around the garden, on the sidewalks, on the driveway, and on the back patio. In my opinion, this building is in EXC++-NEAR MINT condition even though it has a few loose lithos. These will be reanchored using Rubber Cement so they shouldn't pose any future problems.

Note: Due to the number of small parts and the presence of small magnets, these toys were designed for children ages 5 years and up. They DEFINITELY should not be given to children under age 3 as the parts are too small for them to easily manipulate and they pose a choking hazard.

I will be thoroughly Q-tip cleaning this set prior to sending it to its new owners. My sets are IMMACULATE!

This particular offering weighs 1 lb., 9 oz. UNWRAPPED. My location is Lafayette, IN (47905). Due to the size and weight of this offering, I will probably be sending it via the USPS. I'm more than willing to combine auctions to save the buyer on shipping.

FYI, another benefit of using either Fed Ex or UPS is that their quote includes up to $100 worth of FREE insurance. Additional amounts of insurance may be purchased for a nominal fee (that is much less than the USPS). Fed Ex also provides automated tracking updates re: your parcel’s whereabouts directly to your personal e-mail account.

In order to ship Fed Ex (or UPS for that matter), I MUST have a residential or work place address, NOT a P.O. Box number, as well as a home or cell phone. Otherwise, they will not accept the shipping paperwork or transport your item.
