Musicals: Delightfully Dangerous / Private Buckaroo Dvd

In DELIGHTFULLY DANGEROUS, Jane Powell stars as Sherry, a young woman who dreams of being a Broadway star like her older sister, Jo (Constance Moore). A surprise visit to New York, however, leads to the discovery that Jo is, instead, a burlesque star. The always excellent Ralph Bellamy also stars as a good-hearted producer in this sweet, light musical from 1945.The army looks like a pretty fun place to be in PRIVATE BUCKAROO, a goofy curio from 1942. The story follows some lucky recruits as they go through a basic training that consists mostly of attending USO dances. Drill Sergeant Shemp Howard tries hard to convince the boys to take the war seriously, but new recruit Dick Foran is much too busy wooing the Colonel's daughter (Jennifer Holt). The film concludes with a rousing montage of war mobilization footage as the Andrews Sisters sing "We've Got a Job to Do." This is a very interesting mix of comedy, songs, and enlistment propaganda from veteran comedy director Eddie Cline.
