Back in the day when you removed the metal cap from the bottle it could not be replaced because it would be bent in the process of removal.  These plastic replacement caps were made for soda and beer where you would put the open piece of plastic around the neck of the bottle and squeeze the cap part on to the bottle opening.  The idea was that it would keep the product from going flat.  It worked somewhat but would not retain the fizz for long.  This cap says Old Reading Beer in Blue and in red "It has the touch of the Dutch".   It is very flexible.
