In 1955, Ben Jaffee, an executive of the Fontainbebleau Miami Beach bought the 40-acre parcel corner Las Vegas Boulevard and bond Road (now Tropicana Avenue) aiming to build the finest hotel featuirng a Cuban ambience. The hotel finally opened in April 1957. Now owned and operated by Penn National Gaming and is a franchise of Hilton's Double Tree chain. It has the most hotel rooms of any intersection in the world.
