Verified as a faculty member of the Westfield Normal School (Westfield, Massachusetts) In the institution's "Catalogue & Circular, 1881/1882." Scott became principal in 1877. He was a naturalist and spent his free time wandering the hills around Westfield. He went on leave in 1887 and contracted pneumonia and died in 1889. Comments: This photo was originally part of a collection of a couple dozen Carte de Visite (CDV) images of students and faculty from the school year 1881-1882 at Westfield Normal School. The school was founded in 1838 by noted educator and social reformer Horace Mann as the first public co-educational college in America without barrier to race, gender, or economic class. It is known today as Westfield State University.
