35 years after his death, Mell Kilpatrick's photographs were unearthed in his dusty darkroom in Anaheim, California. Kilpatrick focused on death - violent death in small-town America of the 1940s and 50s. He documented small-town tragedies, the crime victims, the hopeless dwellers of trailer courts who had shot themselves in despair. Above all, he sought out traffic post-war cult of the automobile and speed with their lives.
