Giovannino de Grassi
(14th century Italian painter, sculptor, architect & miniaturist)

Baptism of Christ

Original plate rescued from a 1972 book
containing reproductions of the illuminated pages
from the Hours of Gian Galeazzo Visconti.
The Visconti Hours, a late 14th century prayer book commissioned by the ruler of Milan,
is a classic example of the daily devotionals popular at the time,
which were generally made for wealthy lay persons.

This particular page illuminates the baptism of Jesus Christ.
In addition to the lithographic print,
you will receive a scanned copy of the commentary accompanying the piece.

My images can not do justice to this stunning piece.
The shine of the gold will not come through in a scan.

This is an actual 1972 book page,
it is not scanned and printed with a laser printer or otherwise reproduced.
This plate is in excellent condition, on medium-weight paper.
plate size is 9 7/8 X 7 1/8 inches
(printed to the edges, there is no margin)
The reverse has another image, but nothing shows through.
Highly suitable for framing!
