Immortal warrior, Tarnum has been denied entry into paradise by the gods. Given a chance to redeem himself for his bloody past, Tarnum is sent on a series of quests documented in the Heroes Chronicles. Masters of the Elements finds Tarnum becoming that which he detests more than anything else in the world: a wizard. The Elemental Lords are hell-bent on destroying the universe and only Tarnum can quell the uprising by learning the magic required to defeat them. Tarnum must create an army capable of dealing with the four elemental planes of earth, air, fire, and water.

To win against the indomitable foe, he'll have to construct a town and beat the elementals at their own game. Tarnum will create armies; explore subterranean, water, and land environments; learn magic spells; and hire other heroes throughout the quests. Wandering enemy troops are encountered in nine possible population sizes, ranging from small groups to a legion of one thousand or more. The Heroes Chronicles consist of four standalone titles, each offering an interconnected storyline and featuring the same turn-based system of combat seen in the Heroes of Might and Magic series.
