Grace Harvey - the artist:
From an early age Grace Harvey was a self taught artist, but later settled primarily into oil painting. She taught painting in Southern California for many years, after received her formal training at the Cleveland (Ohio) Art Institute. Then she traveled the United States and Canada, painting and drawing as she went.
Upon arriving in Los Angeles, Miss Harvey had contacted legendary artist Leon Franks to improve her painting techniques. Franks studied in Paris at Académie Julian and Grande Chaumiére, and with Fechin, Chamberlin, Will Foster, at Chouinard's and the Art Center while doing titles and designing for the movie industry. He was a huge force in Grace's training.
Harvey later studied with legendary artist Nicolai Fechin, favorite painter of the Czar of Russia. A Fechin oil sold in 2008 for $590,000
For her knowledge of color she studied with renowned Romanian Landscape Colorist Ted Lukits.
She used this training through the 1960s and 1970s to become a respected and prolific artist with a gallery in Reseda California. Her works often included seascapes, landscapes and floral still life paintings such as this piece.
