Two barmaids paired with two virile laborers--two couples for whom the lay-off season meant five months of perfect passion, blissful annual reunions which marriage would have ruined. But in this their seventeenth summer, rapture turns to rage, love to hate. In one terrible week the magic spell is broken and their world explodes in a sudden, shattering climax of violent emotions.
