One day in 1760 David Aiken went hunting in the Massachusetts hills. He was feeling rather proud of the way he had evaded the farm chores his grandfather had set. Old Mr. Aiken was so strict that the boy rarely found a chance to take his father's rifle and slip off by himself for a day of freedom. David was quite unprepared for a sudden attack from the rear. When he came to, his hands and feet had been securely tied by two young red-painted Indians who were eagerly examining his fine rifle.  (#04)
