The BOBCAT Badge was introduced in 1938 as the entry-level rank for every new Cub, earned prior to all other award or rank  of Tiger Club, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos.

A boy must complete the Bobcat requirements - demonstrating his understanding of Scouting's core values, able to recite the Club Scout Promise, Law of the Pack and motto, among other things.
