A HISTORY OF THE PURITANS AND PILGRIM
FATHERS
by Rev. W.H. Stowell & D. Wilson
Worthington Co., 1888
First Combined Edition(?)
Condition: Very Good-

This volume combines two 19th century books in one: THE PURITANS IN ENGLAND by Stowell and THE PILGRIM FATHERS by Wilson. In all, there are 508 pages, plus 10 pages listing and describing other books by the publisher (including Carroll's ALICE books). At the time, these histories were regarded as the best and most exhaustive recountings of the Pilgrim fathers. The front cover and spine are colorfully designed; there is some color chipping along the top. The cover corners are bumped and somewhat frayed, and there's just a bit of fraying at the head of the spine. The back cover shows rubbing. I leafed through all of the fragile pages and found only a few short page edge tears and chips, a few pencil underlinings and much age tanning and foxing. But this still may be the best copy of this scarce book to be found on the Internet. (There's also an interesting inscription on the ffep: "B.A. Geiger, Titusville, Fla. Presented by Dr. J.B. Scriven the day after the big fire, Dec. 13, 1895, in Titusville, Fla.")
