This is a beautiful vintage delicate and slim Sosaku Creative Kokeshi doll from Japan. This gorgeous doll is hand painted in shades of black, orange and white with lots of detail and carved from wood. I'm not sure of the type of wood, but it may be Japanese Mulberry Wood. Her patterned Kimono or dress has a colorful design including a peek-a-boo blue temple building behind the parasol. She has a very feminine appearance with her long tapered neck and tilted head. She stands on a painted black round base. She is approximately 6 1/2 inches tall and the base is 2 1/4 inches in diameter.

She is in great condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. There is a tiny bit of white paint on the edge of the parasol. The colors are vibrant and brilliant and she is just stunning. Please look at the close up pictures as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

She would make a great addition to your collection of dolls. This is a wonderful example of fine Japanese craftsmanship. The Kokeshi dolls are considered lucky charms and are often bought in the belief that the doll will protect a home against fire.
