Foinn Seisiún Volume 3 CD
This is a double CD set recorded live at Comhaltas headquarters in Monkstown. The companion book was published first, and the CD was made in response to requests for recordings of the printed tunes. Page numbers are given next to each track. Book and CD come separately. 2 CDs,

The natural home of Irish music is the "session." These regular gatherings of musicians represent the best of the Irish traditional music scene: its camaraderie and sharing of music, and its warm respect for performers of all generations and walks of life. For sessions to be successful it is important that participants have the opportunity to join in as much as possible, and learning the sets of standard traditional tunes in this book will make you feel at home at a session. The selections are based on a consensus arrived at over the years during a regular Wednesday night sessions at the Cultúrlann na hÉireann in Monkstown. Suitable for all melody instruments.

This series of books and CD sets was produced to provide those learning to play Irish music with a virtual session to play along with, at home or wherever they may be practicing, and to hone their skills. The tunes, comprising sessions standards in all the main genres (even mazurkas and waltzes), are grouped in medleys of two or three, and are performed that way on the companion 2-CD sets. The musical notation is the typical single-line, bare-bones version. The recorded performances, by musicians playing accordion, banjo, concertina, fiddle, flute, uilleann pipes, etc, in various combinations, are not necessarily most sophisticated musically, but they have plenty of energy and are well suited to their intended use.
