This Affymetrix GMS 417 Arrayer is in lightly used condition and was removed from a working environment. This item came from a large, reputable local lab that was upgrading their equipment. This system was in use prior to removal. We urge customers to view all photos as they show overall condition, included accessories, and functionality. We can accept PayPal or your credit card. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

PLEASE NOTE: Computer and monitor are NOT included. Software was successfully installed in order to show system functioning. Software communicated with the arrayer but we had some difficulties with operation. This is most likely due to our lack of experience and knowledge in this analytical process and software. Pictures 4 and 5 show arrayer head homing.

DESCRIPTION

Affymetrix GMS 417 Pin&Ring Arrayer
Manufacturer:

Affymetrix (formerly Genetic Microsystems)

The GMS 417 arrayer is a fully automated pin- and ring spotter to create DNA and protein microarrays. Multiple analytes (up to 384 per step) can be spotted onto planar surfaces like glass slides or optical waveguides.
The controlling software provides full flexibility in the design of the spotting patterns.

Pin- and ring technique involves dipping a small ring into the analyte well and removing it to capture liquid in the ring. A solid metal pin is then pushed through the film of analyte in the ring and sample trapped on the flat end of the pin is deposited onto the surface. The advantage of this technique compared to inkjet printers is the broader range of surface chemistries suitable as substrates (e.g. smearing on hydrophilic surfaces).

The Genetic Microsystems GMS 417 Arrayer automates the production of micrspots on glass slides. Applications include clone mapping, linkage analysis and gen expresion monitoring. Employs a Pin and Ring technology for spotting samples on slides, Surface tension and surface energy cooperate to lift and hold an aliquot in each ring. Unit is capable of spotting up to 42 treated microscope slides simultaneously, using DNA or oligonucleoautomates
