CHINA AND ITS PEOPLE IN EARLY
PHOTOGRAPHS: An Unabridged Reprint
of the Classic 1873/4 Work
by John Thomson
Dover Publications, 1982
Condition: Very Good
Thomson traveled over 4,000 miles throughout China from 1868 to 1872, photographing the land and its people and recording his impressions. The resulting four volume set was a historic landmark in the still rather young field of photography. This 9/1/4" x 12/1/4" softbound unabridged reprint has all 200 b&w photographs of exceptional quality (many of them full-page size), along with Thomson's text. Janet Lehr, who made her copy of the rare original available for direct offset photography, provides a new Foreward. The exterior has some creasing and corner/spine end wear. There is small corner curl on a number of pages. The pages are white.
