This is a beautiful pair of iridescent octagon golden Abalone Shell pierced earrings. They have a similar appearance to Ammolite, which is a fossilized shell. The earrings remind me of flash opals and have dazzling colors when the light catches them with movement. These earrings are richly colored and have gorgeous patterns of coppers, golds, greens, blues and more with inclusions or designs that remind me of flowing lava. The earrings measure approximately 1 ¼ inches in diameter and hang down 2 ¼ inches. They are unmarked.

These are in excellent vintage condition and were purchased in the late 1980s. The earrings are a silver toned metal octagon shaped setting (8 sided) and inserts were cut the same way. The silver metal backing is textured as you can see in the pictures.  The shells were not cut to an exact fit by the artist and they are placed in the setting slightly askew, so if you look closely you can see the silver edge on the side (see arrow in pictures). You don't notice it when they are on, only with the magnification. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

These are a beautiful pair of earrings that will be noticed and complimented on. They would be stunning with a little black dress for a special formal occasion, or with your favorite pair of jeans for that classy casual look.
