I purchased this lovely vintage embroidered item at an estate sale many years ago. I have just now laundered, lightly starched and ironed it and I find this is a very nice collectible item.

The material used is from a plain feed sack and is muslin/off-white color. It measures 16 ¼” long and 10 ½” wide. The hem is hand done with a straight stitch.

The embroidery is definitely free-hand, no stamped pattern/design and definitely not a kit. The stars are done in what looks to me to be a chain stitch and obviously not done by an accomplished hand. The cross is also in chain stitch and again not by an accomplished hand.

It is interesting to note that the cross is stitched in such a manner as to make it appear dimensional. Also interesting is the “light” shining from the cross was stitched in blue rather than in the gold color of the cross. From looking at the stitching and the amount of thread used to stitch the cross (it is somewhat stingy in places), I think the stitcher did not have enough gold color thread for the light and that’s why it is stitched in blue.

This is a very interesting piece and I wish I knew more about its history. It would be beautiful framed with a somewhat rough extended wooden frame and displayed in a rustic home, cabin, or a home with antiques.

Please note: listed shipping is a best guess estimate. I refund all overages above $2.00 whether it is a single item purchase or multiple items in a single purchase.
