I have collected vintage linens for many, many years and I have never seen another set like this item that I am listing! It has been a part of my collection for years, mostly because it is so well done and is very unusual.
The small item is obviously for matches since it has “Matches” embroidered on the front flap and has matches as the lines on a tic-tac-toe game (the game is a tie). It has a small loop at top for hanging. The pocket portion measures 4 ¼” x 3 1/8”, measures 6 ¼” from loop to bottom.
The next piece has been a puzzler.** At first, I thought it may be a tea cozy but the opening is at the top so the lady would be upside down so that’s not its’ use. It is not padded so is not a pot holder or a hot pad. The string goes through front and back at top and has a knot at top that allows for limited opening -- I suppose the string/knot could also be used for hanging. She measures 7 ½” wide (at widest) and 9” long (at longest).
**THE PUZZLE HAS BEEN SOLVED THANKS TO A LIN'S ANTIQUES SHOPPER! I received a convo from a very observant lady with the suggestion that this may be a string holder. I thought "no, surely not" but I pulled the item from inventory and lo and behold, there is a hole in the center of the mouth to pull a string through! I am amazed. :) When I laundered and ironed the item, I did not open it (ironed it flat, front and back) and absolutely did not notice the stitched opening on the mouth.
Both pieces are in new, unused condition and really are super cute!
Please note: shipping is a best guess estimate. I refund all overages above $2.00 whether it is a single item purchase or several items purchased in a single transaction.
