This is a listing for one 85g (3 oz) bar of Portuguese yellow beeswax.

DrApis' raw beeswax is unfiltered and chemical free. Produced and extracted using exclusively traditional methods, it preserves all the natural elements produced by bees.

# What is beeswax?

Secreted by worker bees and used to build comb cells, beeswax is a valuable resource. Worker bees consume an estimated 8 pounds of honey for each pound of wax they produce.

# What can I do with yellow beeswax?

Beeswax is an all natural and eco-friendly substitute for petroleum-based waxes.

Yellow beeswax in particular is pure wax secreted by bees that absorbs some of the pollen and nectar stored in honeycombs. Thus it's floral sweet scent and it's amber colour. Yellow beeswax stays in hives only for short periods between harvests. It is soft and suitable for:

- skin care and cosmetics;

- culinary arts;

- boot polishing (bulling);

- furniture polishing;

- cool water eco-friendly surfboard wax (15-20 °C / 58-68 °F).

If you are looking for a harder wax take a look at DrApis Brown Beeswax.

# Colour and scent

As any other natural product, beeswax's properties change with every new harvest. However, these changes are less pronounced in wax than in other bees' products such as honey. You can expect a consistent wax throughout the season, suitable for all above listed applications, with only tiny differences in colour and scent.

# How Portuguese bees make it

DrApis' beeswax is made in Alentejo (Southern Portugal) by the local subspecie of honey bees, Apis mellifera iberiensis. These bees work during Spring and Summer, gathering nectar from the annual wildflowers that sprout in Alentejo's dehesa, under cork oaks (Quercus suber) and holm oaks (Quercus ilex).
