THE SILVER STALLION: A COMEDY OF
REDEMPTION
by James Branch Cabell
Robert M. McBride & Co., 1926
First Trade Edition
Condition: Very Good

Eighty to 100 years ago James Branch Cabell enjoyed great fame. Then, in the '30s, he went out of favor and, in a surprisingly short period of time, he faded into obscurity. His best known-known novels were fantasies (of which THE SILVER STALLION is one of the best) set in the imaginary kingdom of Poictesme. Such diverse sf-fantasy writers as Robert A. Heinlein, Fritz Leiber, James Blish and Jack Vance have acknowledged a debt to Cabell. Given that, the 1sts of Cabell's best books should be valued at more than they are today.  Spine fading, rubbing(?) along the back cover edge, modest spine end wear, slight bump on one cover corner, a very few page corner creases, small erasure visible on the back endpaper but no other markings noticed; bottom page edges uneven, as at publication, moderately tanned pages. Firm binding.
