Summary:   On a hot Sunday afternoon in 1876, a daring U.S. Army cavalryman named George Armstrong Custer led more than 200 soldiers into battle against a giant village of Sioux and Northern Cheyenne Indians. "Hurrah, boys, we've got them!" Custer shouted as the charge began.

"This is a good day to die....follow me!" THe Indians of the Great Plains had been pushed enough. The white man slaughtered their buffalo, fouled their streams, strung barb wire across their land, and had broken treaty after treaty. And now, gold-crazed miers are swarming over the Black HIlls.

Custer was wrong. His men were greatly outnumbered by the Indians. The warriors slowly pushed the soldiers back up a small hill, firing their rifles and bows and arrows and swinging their clubs and pears. By the end of the day, Custer and every single one of his men were dead

Today that small hill is called Last Chance Hill. It juts out of the earth near the Little Bighorn River in southern Montana. The battle fought there is known to history as the Battle of the Little Bighorn, or Custer's Last Stand

It is the the story of two different peoples--the Indians, struggling to keep their way of life, and teh U.S. Army, trying to pave the way for a new way of life in the American West. It is a story of bravery and tragedy that will never be forgotten.
