1899 Omaha Expo -Ruby Diamond Cut Glass Souvenir Creamer Antique

At the turn of the Century, Expositions were huge. This is a souvenir from the Omaha Expo and souvenirs proliferated. While this is not a rarity it is an antique and a very cool collectible. The item is in wonderful condition, the red "spots" you see on the clear glass are reflections.

This type of glass is called  "stained"( not "flashed". Flashed is where the piece is still hot and dipped into a contrasting color of glass then blown). Stained is when a chemical whose color is developed by heat is painted onto an already cool piece (like pressed glass) and fired on for permanency. This method is cheaper than flashing but is less resistant to scratching and wear.

In this case, it's evident that the item was kept in a very safe place, perhaps a curio all these year: The script  is clear without wear ; the color is a sturdy ruby with only a pinpoint wear or two, hardly discernable.

It measures 4 1/4" tall from base to top of handle, 3 1/4" from spout to edge of handle, about 2 3/4" across the rim from side to side and 3" across the base.

It is scripted "Omaha Exposition 1899 "on the front and "Mother" on the back
