Copyright 1979 Print Run 1980
#56 and the last volume in the original Grosset & Dunlap series.
This is the second of three Grosset & Dunlap printings, before the publishing rights of the Nancy Drew series were acquired by Simon & Schuster.
The second printing has a reference at the bottom of p. 178 to a book, The Triple Hoax, which had been planned as the next title when the print run took place. That title is in italics. In a first edition, the title "The Triple Hoax" is in plain type face. By the third run, Grosset & Dunlap was further along in its legal battle with Simon & Schuster, and knew it would not be publishing The Triple Hoax, so it substituted a reference to the first book in the series, The Secret of the Old Clock. These differences on p. 178 are the only way to distinguish between the first, second and third (final) Grosset & Dunlap print runs.
This matte picture book is in very good condition. Some corner bump wear and back cover edgewear. Black multi-scene endpapers. Overall, clean and tight book. Good spine with only slight spine slant.
Gift inscription writing on front free endflap is the only writing/marking. Feels as if it hasn't been read.
