SOUTH CAROLINA BALLADS

by Reed Smith

Harvard University Press, First Edition, 1928

Condition: Very Good+ to Near Fine

This book gives a history and analysis of balladry in America, focusing on several of the surviving ballads that came out of South Carolina.  The best-known of these is likely "Bonnie Barbara Allen".  174 pages.  Modest cover corner wear and light spine end wear; a light bump on the fore-edges; toned pages, mainly in the inner margins.  The gilt lettering and printer logo on the front cover and spine are virtually unworn; the top page edges are also gilt.  The hinges and overall binding are secure.  No dust jacket. This would be a valuable addition to a collection on popular American music, particularly folk songs and ballads.
