This is a large artistic etched or embossed metal hair barrette. It is intricately tooled with what appears to be two snake heads. The base is a silver tone metal with an attached gold tone metal piece in the center. I believe it to be made from tin and brass, but I’m not positive. A magnet does not stick to the decorative metal, but it does stick to the nickel clip base. It is most likely from Mexico, it has an ethnic appearance. It measures approximately 4 inches long and 2 inches tall. The clip on the back is 3 inches in length.

It is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. There are a few small tarnished areas from age, I have not tried to polish them out, and it has a great patina that many people prefer. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

I wish I still had long hair to wear this barrette. I hope that someone will enjoy this unique piece as much as I did.  It is a dramatic eye-catching and unique piece of wearable art jewelry that will look gorgeous in anyone’s hair. It could also easily be converted to a pendant or a brooch if anyone is a crafty person.
