These die cast versions are now being produced in China and other countries, but this one is directly manufactured from Germany by the SIKU Toy Company that was part of my childhood when my grandmother brought back authentic toys from Germany during the early to mid 1960's period which makes it a very rare authentic piece that can no longer be purchased from this company. This is an original owned by me for more than 50 years.

DESCRIPTION: It is in good condition for having been play-worn long ago. The doors do not open, but the front luggage trunk does. It has genuine glass windows and crystal gemstone headlights. It measures approximately 2-1/2" inches long x 1" inch wide x 3/4" inches tall. I believe this to be 1:60 scale in size. The maker's mark on the bottom states: VW 1200 - SIKU - V234 - V235 - Made in Germany. The License plate has embossed print saying either BEO or 9EO on the back plate. I can't quite make it out.

CONDITION: Although this piece truly does show the condition in my photographs please remember they are magnified by my telephoto lens and is priced according to rarity of item. If in mint condition this would be priced at $265.00 on up because it is extremely rare. I do not clean vintage pieces, but preferring any new owner to handle this so as not to affect its value or prominence.

1964 Porsche 901 #V234-V235 (changed to 911)

For collectors not familiar with Siku, this German firm is one of the few survivors in the world of diecast cars. They started in the 1950's with plastic cars and switched to diecast in 1963. The first thing you notice about Siku cars are their weight and quality. These are perhaps the strongest and best-made toy cars in small-scale and are well-engineered.

ABOUT PORSCHE 901-911: The first diecast Porsche from Siku is appropriately the first Porsche 911. The most interesting feature of this car is that it is not labelled as a 911, rather as a 901. On the 12th of September in 1963, Porsche introduced the Type 901 as the successor of the Porsche 356 at the IAA in Frankfurt. Just one year later, with the 901 poised to go into series production, it was presented to the public eye again at the Parisian Autosalon. Peugeot intervened, because they owned the copyright for all three digit model designations with a 0 in the middle. But before Porsche was able to make the amends, production of the Type 901 had already got off the ground on September 14, 1964, and a total of 82 full sized car units were delivered by the factory. All of them carried the type designation 901.

SIKU TOY COMPANY first offered this model in 1964 as #V234 before the 901 name was changed. This 1964 production style die cast model of a 1963 Porsche 901 Classic Car is painted in a Dark Blue color with Cream interior. The gemstone headlights and glass windows are a characteristic of SIKU models of this vintage. The opening luggage compartment in the front of the car is quite rare on small-scale diecast Porsches. It is clearly the earliest original die cast metal production version of any 901-9011 Porsches to be produced in 1:60 scale

The Porsche 901 model has a S/N V234 - V235, V-Series from SIKU. It represents the Porsche produced by SIKU from late 1963-1964 and end of production in 1969. The Porsche was first done by SIKU in 1955 as #V13 in their plastic series. The one shown here, #V234 was the first diecast version from Siku in 1964. Siku's wonderful toy cars provide some of the highest quality in the world of diecast. The cream interior sports a black steering wheel and compared to early cars from Matchbox and Majorette, the SIKU superior.
