Vintage Playmobil #5324 Victorian Bathroom Comp. in Box/NR MINT! (D) (retired)
Have you ever dreamed about owning an old-fashioned clawfoot bathtub? Well here's your chance. Here is a complete, HTF Playmobil #5324 Victorian Bathroom play set. Designed to accompany Playmobil's CLASSIC #5300 Large Victorian Mansion, this set was produced during the years 1995-2004. Besides the majestic bathtub, this set includes the "latest" bathroom accessories of the day---a coordinated hot water heater and shower, a "water closet" (e.g. toilet), and a mirrored pedestal sink. A tall, orange basket with a lid that really works holds discarded bath towels. Clean towels can be stored on a "wooden" towel rack. A tufted bench allows a young boy to reach the sink so he can wash his face and brush his teeth. Three separate area rugs keep bare "tootsies" warm and prevent water from being tracked all over the bathroom. Supervising the whole "getting ready for bed routine" is the devoted household maid. The detail in this set is incredible---even down to a roll of pretend toilet paper, a pull chain to "flush" the toilet, pretend "gas" light fixtures, and a "hold all" tray that spans the tub and corrals all of the bath supplies for easy access. All of the accessories and figures reflect the Victorian era of the late 1890's and early 1900's.
FYI, Playmobil toys have been renowned world-wide for 40 years for their high quality, durability, attention to detail, and the extendibility of their underlying toy system. All figures are scaled to fit in a child's hand with add-on accessories (e.g. hats, skirts, aprons, collars, scarves, armor, headresses, shoes, sandals, stethoscope, jewelry etc.) lending authenticity to the different characters involved. The jointed figures are able to clasp items in their hands and move about through "child power." A wide assortment of "add-on" sets featuring vehicles, animals, furniture, and buildings are realistically scaled according to their "real-life" equivalents and reflect actual life scenarios.
All of Playmobil's play sets revolve around established "themes" familiar to young children. Sets may be used interchangeably. Due to the level of detail, children's imaginations are afforded endless open-ended play opportunities. Not only do these toys broaden a child's imagination, creativity, attention, and use of elaborate oral narratives, they also facilitate a child's cooperative and dramatic play skills and fine motor capabilities. These toys conform to the highest production standards of quality and safety in accordance with European and American safety guidelines. The toys, while primarily manufactured in Germany, also are produced in Malta and Spain. They are distributed in more than 70 countries throughout the world.
It should be noted that Playmobil created this set for children ages 3 years and up; however, my daughter, who never mouthed her toys and was advanced for her age, received the Playmobil #5300 Victorian Mansion at 2 1/2 years of age. She played with this set up and many of the accessory play sets until she was 13 years of age. Talk about "getting a bang out of your buck." Now, at 26 years of age, she has given me explicit instructions not to sell her sets---she wants to save them for her future children. In general, though, adult supervision is highly recommended for children under 3-4 years of age. Last but not least, these toys are great for school diorama projects or for families that are home-schooling their children.
The original box housing this set shows considerable wear (e.g. torn and missing flaps, rips, edge wear, remnants of the original price tag, and red marks on the reverse side of the box where someone logged the pieces that were included with this set). On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being perfect, I would rate this box as being a 4.0/10.0.
