This is for general protection. It can be used for physical, spiritual, emotional, or psychic protection. Generally, the way this is done is by charging a bay leaf with either your name, or the name of the person or pet that you want the protection for, then using various incantations and intention to direct the magick, and finally burning the bay leaf to release the magick to accomplish the task.
