This is a rare and well-preserved fossil of Cenoceras lineatum, a Jurassic nautiloid from the Upper Toarcian (~180 million years ago), found in South Petherton, Somerset, UK.

Cenoceras is an extinct genus of nautiloids that flourished in the Jurassic seas. Unlike ammonites, nautiloids had a more simplistic internal chamber structure, allowing them to control buoyancy and navigate prehistoric marine environments efficiently. Cenoceras lineatum is notable for its distinctive coiled shell with smooth sutures and faint growth lines.

This specimen originates from the South Petherton region, an important fossil site within the Jurassic Lower Lias deposits. Fossils from this area provide a valuable glimpse into marine ecosystems of the Early Jurassic period.
