COVER According to Thomas E. Hall, Curator of the Winchester-Western Division of Olin Mathieson Chemical Corp., the rifle on the left is a Henry, .44 rim fire Henry
cal., standard 24" octagonal barrel, serial number 7001, probably made in 1864. The receiver was originally silver-plated, plating now considerably worn of. The rifle
on the right is a Volcanic made by the New Haven Arms Co., 25" octagonal barrel, .38 cal., serial number 88, probably made early in 1858. Transparency was made by
Henry Aubin. Guns were placed on a 3-ft. high plate glass table with four 1,000-watt 3200 Kelvin lamps to light up the guns. Six 500-watt 3200 Kelvin lamps were
used to light up the background paper which was placed on the floor. Photo was taken with a Deardorff camera with a 12" commercial Ektar lens on 4x5 type B film.
Exposure was set for 1/2 sec. at F. 16.
