Rafael's father was an early pre-Spratling Taxco silversmith; Rafael soon was working for Spratling and learned from the Maestros Mondragon and Navarrete. He opened his shop in the early 1940s and was highly regarded by all who knew his artistry. Sadly, he passed in 1980, at the young age of 69.
