Æ (Bronze) Follis. 16.5mm. Heavy weight 3.39g (typicall 2.5g or less). Just under the size of a dime but nearly 50% heavier (dime 17.9mm 2.27g).
Constantinople mint, First Officina, Struck c. 395-401 A.D.
Obverse: DN ARCADIVS PF AVG--translation: "Dominus Noster Arcadius Pius Felix Augustus" (Our Lord Arcadius pius happy Augustus), pearl-diademed head right of Arcadius.
Reverse: VIRTVS EXERCITI ~ Translation: The bravery of the Army in Latin. Arcadius standing facing, head right, resting on grounded spear and shield; to his right, Victory standing facing, head left, crowning him with a wreath, Constantinople mint mark in exergue CONSA (A=First Officina). RARE R3 in RIC.
