All rhinoceroses weigh at least one tonne when they are adults,
making them some of the largest megafauna still living.
They consume only plants, have small brains (400–600 g) compared to other mammals their size,
one or two horns, and a thick, protective skin (1.5–5 cm) made of collagen layers arranged in a lattice arrangement.
Although their ability to ferment food in their hindgut enables them to survive on more fibrous plant materials when necessary,
they mostly ingest leafy material.
The two African species of rhinoceros,
