Synopsis:
The story is set in 2019 and will explore two questions: when is kidnapping not considered kidnapping, and if your wife is not your wife?
After a series of unexpected events entangle Dorothy 'Dot' Lyon (played by Juno Temple) with the authorities, this seemingly typical Midwestern housewife suddenly returns to the life she thought she had forgotten.
North Dakota Sheriff Roy Tillman (played by Jon Hamm) has been searching for Dot for a long time. As a rancher, preacher, and law enforcement officer, Roy believes he is the law and therefore above the law.
Standing on Roy's side is his loyal but irresponsible son Gator (played by Joe Keery), who is eager to prove himself to his extraordinary father. Unfortunately, Gator is beyond redemption. Therefore, in order to pursue Dot, Roy recruited Ole Munch (played by Sam Spruell), a wanderer from a mysterious background.
As her deepest secret begins to be revealed, Dot tries to protect her family from harm from her past, but her doting and well meaning husband Wayne (played by David Rysdahl) constantly seeks help from his mother Lorraine Lyon (played by Jennifer Jason Leigh). As the CEO of the largest debt collection agency in the United States, this debt queen is not satisfied with her son's choice of wife and does not miss any opportunity to express her opposition.
However, when Dot's abnormal behavior caught the attention of Minnesota police officer Indira Olmstead (Richa Moorjani) and North Dakota police officer Witt Farr (Lamorne Morris), Lorraine appointed her internal legal advisor Danish Graves (Dave Foley) to assist her daughter-in-law. After all, family is family. But Dot has an incredible set of survival skills. Faced with difficulties, she is about to demonstrate why one should never provoke her as a mother.
