Epiphyllum Oxypetalum (also known as Queen of the Night, Dutchman's Pipe Cactus, Night Blooming Cereus, Princess of the Night, and Lady of the Night) is an unusual orchid cactus that open in the evening, releasing a wonderful perfumed scent at night, and close at daybreak. Orchid cactus is a surprisingly easy plants to grow as it can thrive on neglect. It is well suited for indoors all year round or outdoors in the ground or in a container in zones 9 – 12. Epiphyllum Oxypetalum has no spines or glochids. The “leaves” of this plant can be allowed to trail or attached to a lattice to grow upright. The orchid cactus prefers full sun to bright filtered light and to be planted in a blend of potting mix and cactus mix. It is a drought tolerant succulent but should be watered when the soil is fully dry.
