We salute our good and
friend 14 neighbors to the
south:
SONORA MEXICO.
FRONT COVER
"GULF OF CALIFORNIA--GUAYMAS" BY RAY MANLEY. Guaymas, Sonora's important travel center, 268 miles southwest of Nogales.
The mere chance of geography made the states of Sonora and Arizona neighbors. Mutual interests, problems, understanding, respect and admiration have made these states more than neighbors. They have over the years been loyal, trusted and helpful friends working together for the best interests of each other. As an example of this close relationship is the Arizona-Sonora Commission, an organization of governmental officials and prominent citizens of both states working diligently together for the economic and cultural betterment of their citizens. This Commission has already accomplished some notable and worthy things and will continue a long range program for the progress and growth of two great states of two great countries.
A journey to Sonora, which we take you on this month, is a journey into yesterday and is a journey into dynamic today. The state is the most progressive and forward-looking of all states of Mexico, but it still retains its old-world charm. We take you through the Kino Mission country of Northern Sonora, through the heart of the great Sonoran desert, to the Gulf of California with its sandy beaches, hidden coves and some of the best fishing in the world. When we were once asked what we thought was one of Arizona's most important tourist attractions we answered without hesitancy, "Sonora, Mexico !" We hope these pages will tell you why ! People of Sonora! We salute you! Viva Sonora! Long live our good friends and neighbors ! ... R.C.
