Glen Canyon Bridge was chosen the most beautiful steel bridge opened to traffic in 1959 in the annual Aesthetic Prize Bridge Competition sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction, national association representing the fabricated structural steel industry. The bridge was cited as top winner in Class I (bridges with spans of 400 feet or more), for its "elegant, airy arch design that contrasts so beautifully with the grand brutality of the setting." The distinguished jury noted particularly that "the bridge is detailed with great deftness and grace and constructed with a minimum of disturbance to the landscape.". FEATURES:
