FRONT COVER:
"SALT RIVER GORGE" BY WAYNE DAVIS. One of Arizona's most imposing canyons, but less publicized, is Salt River Gorge, where U. S. 6o and the river meet. The highway sweeps down from the pine country of Show Low and then as majestically climbs up to a cool, juniper-clothed plateau and then down to Globe. Despite the steepness of canyon walls, good engineering makes the ascent easy.
OPPOSITE PAGE
"ON THE MIAMI-SUPERIOR HIGHWAY" BY ALLEN C. REED. This view shows the rugged desert hills through which U. S. Highway 6o-70 pass to join the mining towns of Superior and Miami. The Pinto Creek Bridge shown here won the "Most Beautiful Bridge Award" in its class in 1949. The award was made by the American Institute of Steel Construction. 41c5 Speed Graphic, Ektachrome,
