A very rare Rosenthal figurine of two sleeping fauns seated on a pedestal, designed by Albert Caasmann in 1912. Beautifully detailed in the best Rosenthal tradition, with strong Art Nouveau influences. A tender scene, with the fauns having their arms draped over each other's shoulders and holding hands. The faun on the right (head down) is wearing a wreath of grape vines, leaves and purple grapes. Rosenthal model # S174.
Fine Rosenthal porcelain with multicolor underglaze decoration. Approximately 9.5 inches (24.5 cm) high and 4.75 inches wide. Made at the Rosenthal factory in Selb, Bavaria, Germany. The trademark indicates that this figurine was made circa 1920. Starting in 1927, the trademark included a date code in the form of dots incorporated into the trademark, which this does not have. so this figurine must have been made sometime between 1912 (the year it was designed) and 1926. Rosenthal porcelain made after 1933 has the word GERMANY instead of BAVARIA in the trademark.
EXCELLENT CONDITION no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs. An exceptionally nice figurine.
