"S3T Projects" provides ongoing repair services for rehabilitated vintage electronics products sold on our store, Strang3r's Things AFTER the normal return period closes. As restorers, we repair and restore vintage electronic gear before reselling it ; however, we cannot guarantee repairs; therefore, we do not - as a rule - accept returns and disclose in our listings that as a buyer, you take on responsibility of ongoing maintenance and repair yourself as a condition of sale.
WHY? As vintage electronics are long obsolete by definition, original parts range from impossible to infeasible to obtain but are nonetheless required to keep vintage gear operating. We offer this service to assist our customers who may not have the resources, skill or time to perform ongoing repairs themselves,
SCOPE: at this time, we offer this service ONLY for products our store sells. Do not purchase this service without contacting us FIRST through messaging about your project requirements. Otherwise, your sale may be cancelled. If the item is defective upon receipt, notify us immediately to start the normal return and refund process.
PRODUCT CLASSES COVERED:
TAPE DECKS - all makes and models of Cassette and 8-Track decks through the 1970's. Only high-end audiophile such as Nakamichi and Harmon Kardon after 1980.
TURNTABLES: Mid-century (1960 to 1980) BSR, Garrard, V-M. Dual, Technics. Others accepted on case-by-case basis.
VINTAGE RADIOS: "All American 5" and "All American 6" Vacuum" tube Models (1935 to 1955).
INEWIT NOVELTY PRODUCTS: Our house brand of "iNewIt" novelty products known as "custom builds" for any of the above classes and which may include other product classes not listed.
LIMITATIONS: Ongoing repairs are subject to the following limits:
Availability of technical artifacts such as schematics and service manuals.
FABRICATION: unavailable / discontinued original parts require novel fabrication techniques which may not be attainable or feasible after evaluation.
MAINTENANCE SERVICES: we only perform repair services for products we sell. We do not perform user required maintenance.
BUYING REQUIREMENTS:
The buyer of this service is required to pay shipping in both directions - to and from - our shop.
We charge $100 per hour with a 1-hour minimum for labor. After 1-hour, time is billed in 15-minute increments. this charge also covers the shop supplies, such as cleaners, hook-up wiring, solder, small general connectors, small passive components (signal capacitors and resistors), general fixation (nuts, bolts, glues, stand-offs), etc. It does not cover the cost of parts purchased specifically for the unit and that would not otherwise be considered "shop supplies".
Parts not otherwise considered as "shop supplies" are billed at cost-plus rates, that is the cost we paid for the item PLUS overhead which is 124%. For example, a specific part costing $10 to us would be charged at $12.40.
Repair services are guaranteed for 90 days after the delivery date back to buyer.
Buyer will pay for their own shipping to us. We will bill shipping when we return the item.
GETTING STARTED
DO NOT PURCHASE THIS SERVICE UNTIL INSTRUCTED TO DO SO. You must first contact us via messaging about your repair. At that time, we will respond with a list of questions designed to help us understand your general objectives. This may be followed with more back and forth to narrow in on a specific scope, timetable and budget for the project. Once we agree on specifics, we will email a project work-order. Confirm the work-order with pre-payment of $99 and ship the unit to us. NOTE: We must charge a minimum of 1 pound and 1x1x1 inch for shipping on the platform in addition to the $99.
CANCELLATION: If we are not able to move forward, the entire amount paid in advance will be refunded.
SHIPPING
Always use a professional service to pack and ship the unit to us and insure it. We strongly recommend that the buyer affix a "Shockwatch" tag to the outside carton which may be purchased online. Shockwatch will notify us upon delivery if the item was mishandled and will make your efforts to recover from the insurance much easier. We will inspect the Shockwatch prior to opening the carton and notify you if it is broken.
Our return shipping will also include insurance and a Shockwatch tag.
