Checkers - Wooden Classic Family Game - Brand New
The game of checkers, also known as Draughts, is a strategy board game played by two players. Each player has 12 playing pieces, and the main objective is to capture their opponents pieces. Another objective is to reach your opponent side of the board in order to get your pieces crowned. Once they are crowned, they become kings and have the ability to move forward and back on the game board.
The game of Checkers was believed to be derived from an ancient Egyptian game called Alquerque. It was the French, in 1100 A.D. that adapted it to be played on a chessboard and changed it from 5 to 12 pieces per player. After all those years, it wasn’t till 1756 when the official rules of checkers were created by an English mathematician, William Payne. Checkers today is played for fun by all ages. It is also played by those who do it for the strategy and logical thinking. If you are good enough, you can even play at the world Checkers Championship that is held Annually.
