Considering I’m not a retinol novice and my skin can tolerate the ingredient, I didn’t need to work my way up to a regular retinol routine with A313. Instead, I started using the product three times a week. However, beginners are advised to use it once a week and work their way up to two or three times per week. I can even use it on consecutive nights without irritation, which is a win in my book.
I apply a pea-size amount—but not before warming it up between my fingers to make the product more malleable—so I can quickly spread it across my face. During my first few times using A313, I was confused about how to apply the product. However, after careful research, I discovered that it should be applied to clean skin and doesn’t need to be followed with any serum or moisturizer. The balm texture lends itself to an occlusive or heavy moisturizer, and, much to my surprise, my skin didn’t feel parched or dry the following morning.
