I really don't know what these are made out of. They are heavy and durable. Thought they were marble from the outside. Interior shows they are made out of some kind of thick and dense clay/ceramic/plaster/concrete material. Each box weighs a good 3 pounds so definitely not solely ceramic.

Lids are carved. Boxes hand painted too. SUPER NICE. They have no chips and no cracks.
