This coin comprises one of the coins found in the Epfig Hoard. Originally discovered in 2010 in the small town of Epfig, in the Alsace-Lorraine region of France, these coins were part of 110 kg of Roman treasure hidden away in three large ceramic pots. For over 1600 years, these coins were buried and kept in stunning condition. This Roman Coin of Constantius II has been graded in AU (About Uncirculated) condition by NGC. It is truly rarest of Ancient coins to have a pedigree stretching to the original time of coin in circulation including original find spot and Very Rare in RIC R4-R5!
AE3 /Nummus c. 2.3gm 18mm. Constantinople Mint, Struck c. 335 AD during the reign of Constantine the Great.
Obverse: FL IVL CONSTANTIVS NOB C ~ Unabridged legend: Flavius Iulius Constantius Nobilis Caesar . Translation: Noble Caesar Flavius Julius Constantius, Constantius II laureate, cuirassed bust right seen from the front.
Reverse: GLORIA EXERCITVS ~ Translation: Glory of the Army. Two soldiers helmeted, each holding spear and shield, two military standards--with three badges and surmounted by a banner--between; Rome mintmark •CONSI• ~ resembles •CONSIS or Δ• in exergue which is unlisted (R5)--all listed officinas are rated R4 and R5!
