About the item:
Running from issue #601 through issue #642, Action Comics became Action Comics Weekly, with a variety of stories and characters. Superman's role in the series was reduced to a two-page spread, the centerfold, with five other stories (featured in a 8-page sequence) to be continued in the next issue. It was DC's very first weekly comic book and was an attempt to return the series to is anthology roots. It proved too demanding for writers, artists, and editors, however, and to 'expensive' for fans in the 1980's, and so the series only ran ten months, from May 1988 to March 1989. This page, from issue #630, is from the week of December 13 of 1988. The page features a stunning shot of Speedy, Green Arrow's sidekick, with story by Cherie Wilkerson (the original story idea that began a few issues earlier was co-plotted with New Teen Titans co-creator Marv Wolfman, though by this issue Wilkerson had completely taken over the story) and both pencils and inks by Tom Mandrake. It is page 1 from the story and is the title page and is also a partial splash. It measures approximately 11 by 16 inches, and is in excellent condition. It will be shipped with the utmost care. Please note- this is the actual, original piece of artwork - both pencils and inks. It is not a copy, print, bluelines, or a pre-printed image. It is a one-of-a-kind piece of original art. It is signed by Tom Mandrake. Please note - the cover to the issue this page appears in, as well as the final, colorized page as it appears inside the comic are shown for reference only. They are not included in with the listing. The listing is for the original artwork only.
