In 1919 a new system was devised for marking field gear and equipment, which was to replace the need to stencil unit information on the material. Each piece of equipment would have one of these stamped with the unit information, and then the tines pushed through the web material. These tines were then bent over a metal washer for securing. This was a short-lived endeavor, as the stenciling of equipment was soon again common practice.
